Finding Forward: You Have the Will Within

$23.95

When Jeffrey Morse visited his doctor on an ordinary day in 2012, he could not have imagined that what began as a headache would swiftly spiral into an aneurism, a dissected artery, and a spinal stroke. The old Jeffrey—a flight engineer, Air Force reservist, and avid scuba diver—died on the operating table that day. The new Jeffrey awoke from surgery paralyzed from the neck down. But Jeffrey had never been the sort to give up. Despite immense pain, depression, anxiety, and doctors who claimed he would never recover, he swore he would walk out of that hospital. Through rigorous therapy, determination, optimism, humor, and support, he not only accomplished that goal but has since recovered the use of nearly all his muscles and gone on to greater adventures than ever. Trauma and disability manifest in many forms, and isolation and despair can overwhelm. Although life may never be the same as it was before, it is possible to survive setbacks and learn new ways to adapt, adjust, and thrive. Join Jeffrey on his inspiring journey, and learn how he found his way forward to a new life.

AUTHOR BIO

Jeffrey Morse had traveled the world, visited exotic locations, been a sports diver, and had successful careers in both the military and commercial aviation when one day, an emergency room doctor told him he had both a brain aneurism and a dissected artery. Surgery was the only option. His chances of survival were less than 25 percent. During surgery, Jeffrey suffered a spinal cord stroke that left him paralyzed. At the age of forty-nine, Jeffrey was told he would likely never walk again. He made a vow that he would walk out of the hospital anyway. Six weeks later, he did just that. Jeffrey's journey has led him to alternative therapies, a healthy lifestyle, and a proactive versus reactive approach to his recovery. From that hospital bed after a devastating surgery, Jeffrey has traveled to the top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France, and to the beautiful country of Nepal, where he paraglided off the top of a mountain and fed a vulture in flight. Jeffrey's journey has led him to embark upon a new career as an author and motivational speaker. He believes you can overcome any obstacle by taking control of your recovery. Don't let "I can't" rule your vocabulary. There are always other options, and you can start a new road and a new life.

"We need to hear each other's stories-stroke stories, stories of loss and our suffering stories. We also need to hear that the suffering that is inflicted upon us through no fault of our own does not need to define us, and it can even elevate us to become someone better. Jeffrey Morse's story is one of those." -David Roland, PhD., Award-Winning Author of How I Rescued My Brain: A Psychologist's Remarkable Recovery from Stroke and Trauma, Co-Founder of Compassionate Mind Australia, and Advisor to the Young Stroke Project with the National Stroke Foundation

"Jefferey Morse chose to think 'I want to do this' and not 'I have to do this.' It is a testament to the power of purpose and meaning. Finding Forward is a compelling story of one stroke survivor's battle to thrive, not just survive, after a trauma that left him paralyzed. A motivational read for anyone wanting inspiration to drive through adversity." -Debra Meyerson, PhD., Professor at Stanford University and Award-winning Author of Identity Theft: Rediscovering Ourselves After Stroke

"Every stroke is different, and having Jeffrey Morse's fighting spirit is no guarantee that a survivor will make the amazing comeback he did. His is a truly remarkable journey." -Avrel Seale, Former Editor of The Alcalde and Author of With One Hand Tied behind My Brain

"The will to not just survive but to thrive after a devastating, life-altering tragedy is fleeting for most who have suffered drastic trauma. That is not the case for Jeffrey Morse. His book Finding Forward is a beautiful testament of the human spirit when forced to stare tragedy in the face. Mr. Morse and his story are an inspiration for everyone... a must-read!" -Jacqueline Murray, LMBT, Founder and CEO of Harmony & Balance Massage and Wellness

"An amazing book written to speak to anyone struggling to find inner strength and hope that is necessary to overcome all the mental, physical and emotional conditions of a severe illness or life-changing event. Jeff is the most positive and driven person I have ever met and has defied all odds to survive and get his life back. He continues to find forward on a daily basis which is very difficult for most not overcoming a life-threatening injury. This book helps others see how one man has overcome a massive stroke and a pathway you can follow to get your life back, too. A must-read for anyone overcoming a stroke, life-threatening/altering injury or for their caregivers to help inspire them along the way. From a physical therapist perspective, the fastest healers and the patients that accomplish the most are the ones motivated to help themselves when given the right tools. Jeff has given you a new tool to help you find forward." -Amy Scala, PT, DPT, COMT, CMTPT at Total Core Physical Therapy
