Mark A. Stansberry is an international businessman, energy leader, and humanitarian. He is the founder and chairman of The GTD Group (www.TheGTDGroup.com), a vehicle for helping American businesses expand into international markets and operate skillfully in diverse cultural, political and competitive landscapes.
In 1991 Stansberry coauthored an energy industry handbook, The Acquisition Process and Due Diligence: Minimize Risk/Maximize Return! His second book, The Braking Point: America’s Energy Dreams and Global Economic Realities, released in 2008, sparked a public speaking tour of universities and international energy conferences.
In his newest book, America Needs America’s Energy: Creating Together the People’s Energy Plan (Brown Books Publishing Group, 2012), Stansberry offers a frank discussion of the energy issues at hand as well as realistic, achievable solutions. The book is dedicated to the proposition that we need an energy revolution in this country right now, and the leaders should be everyday people. “Today, the United States still does not have a strategic energy plan,” says Stansberry. “I advocate that, as consumers of energy, we should drive the process, evaluating how we can best leverage our natural resources here at home to ensure long-term energy independence and security.”
With more than thirty-five years of direct experience in the energy industry, Stansberry has become a respected industry expert and media commentator on energy issues. He has testified before the US Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, appeared on national TV networks including CNN, and been quoted in newspapers and magazines such as the Wall Street Journal Market Watch. Stansberry is also a frequent guest on radio shows, publishes op-eds, and presents speeches throughout the United States and globally.
In addition to his work with the GTD Group, Stansberry is the host of the Weekly Roundtable radio show on KFAQ 1170 AM in Tulsa, and chairman of People to People International, a Kansas City–based nonprofit organization that promotes world peace through cultural education and understanding. He is also a talented singer-songwriter and recently released his fourth album, entitled Americana: The Journey of Life.
In 2001 he cofounded an independent film production company with Academy Award-winning producer Gray Frederickson (The Godfather: Part II). Their most recent project is The GET (Grand Energy Transition), a documentary film about the future of energy that was released June 2012.
Stansberry currently serves on the Board of Directors for PostRock Energy Corp. (PSTR, NASDAQ-Global) and is an exofficio Board member. From 2003 to 2009 he served as president of The Energy Advocates, a Washington, DC- and Tulsa-based nonprofit public education organization. From 2003 to 2010 he served as chairman of the State Chamber of Oklahoma Energy Council and founded the International Energy Policy Conference (www.EnergyPolicyConference.com), now in its twentieth year.
Mark Stansberry currently resides in Edmond, Oklahoma, with his wife, Nancy. They have three grown children and six grandchildren.
