Hitler's Priest
By S. J. Tagliareni

Author S. J. Tagliareni

In Brown Books Publishing Group’s recently published Hitler's Priest, a captivating work of historical fiction, author and former Catholic priest Salvatore Tagliareni offers a rare glimpse into the moral conflicts raised by the Roman Catholic Church’s role in the Holocaust.

At the heart of Hitler's Priest is Hans Keller, a highly intelligent architect and atheist. A chance meeting with Josef Goebbels, a charismatic leading figure in the burgeoning Nazi Party, places Keller on a path that will offer him a key role in shaping the future of Nazi Germany—by providing influence within the Catholic Church. Intertwined with this tale is the story of the Pittelli family, hard-working Italians who find themselves caught up in the monumental events of the period.

The book addresses the fundamental question of whether the Church had a responsibility to openly speak out against the Nazi atrocities. There are many controversies surrounding this issue that remain unresolved even today, andHitler's Priest examines these questions in a way that is balanced, thorough, and always engrossing.

His personal connection to Holocaust survivors left Tagliareni with a sense of responsibility to memorialize their stories and struggles. Tagliareni studied with Austrian psychiatrist, Holocaust survivor, and best-selling author of Man's Search for Meaning Dr. Viktor Frankl. This experience inspired him to interview other Holocaust survivors and to see this historical period as much more than facts and statistics. "My novel is meant to inspire self-exploration about responsibility," says Tagliareni."The fact is that most of the world remained silent . . . begging the question, what would you have done?"

Combining extensive research with historical intrigue and compelling storytelling, Hitler's Priest asks readers to take a deeper look at the struggles of conscience raised by the tension between good and evil. "Dr. Tagliareni weaves a story that combines his insider knowledge of the Vatican with his instinct for love, family, and morality to give some insight into the nightmare that was the holocaust," says Georgia Murray, CEO of MMI Investments ."Through the misery of some comes the redemption for many. You won’t forget this story."
